Möserweg in Maranza

Forest trail

Starting from the hotel head to the Wieserhof – turn right onto a side road; walk to the ski lift – up to the Platzerhof farm. The Möserweg trail (no. 14) starts here. First walk uphill through the forest, then over the “Nesselwiesen” meadows. East of the mountain stream the trail continues in the forest to reach a beautiful pond, then continues downhill to the paved road. The first farm you reach on exiting the forest is the Pichlerhof. Following the road past farms and hotels you return to the hotel via the beautiful village of Maranza.

Steiner Mandl in the Jochtal Valley

Panoramic circular hiking tour

Take the cable car from Valles to the Jochtal mountain station, take path no. 11 towards Ochsenboden then turn left on path no. 1A to the summit of the Steiner Mandl and its panoramic platform at 2,117 metres. Keep going past the Hubertus Stöckl onto path no. 1B. Pass the hunting lodge, cross several mountain meadows to path no. 9, continue on the left on path no. 9 to the Anratter hut and the Linderalm or return to the Jochtal mountain station.

Take your time at the top of the Steiner Mandl – the 360° view deserves to be admired.

Maranza hut circuit (Almhüttenrundweg)

TRADITIONAL & NEW MOUNTAIN HUTS

The Maranza hut circuit starts at the mountain station of the Gitschberg cable car. First take trail no. 20 to the Gitschhütte hut, then no. 12 to the Zasslerhütte hut. Follow trail no. 21 to the Ochsenboden, continue to the intersection of trail no. 6 then turn left on this via the Kleiner Gitsch to the panoramic viewpoint and the Moserhütte hut. From the hut, take a new mountain trail down to the Gampen rest area and from there go left again across meadows and through woodland up on a fairly flat trail towards the Gassler Alm dairy farm, then on to the Bacherhütte hut (refreshments available). From here go a short distance on trail no. 14 then turn onto trail no. 19A as far as the Kiener Alm farm (refreshments available). From here climb a short distance on trail no. 20 then turn left onto the Geißraste circular trail as far as the Pichlerhütte hut. Now continue a short distance towards the Zasslerhütte hut, turn right before reaching it and continue on the Geißraste circular trail to the mountain station of the Gitschberg cable car.

ALTFASSTAL VALLEY – CIRCULAR HIKE

IN MARANZA

From the hotel to the car park in the forest above Maranza, at the entrance to the Altfasstal valley (1,602 m), follow the valley road for a few hundred metres to the junction. The Widerschwinge-Weg forest road with path no. 16a starts rising here to the right. The path climbs north up in the high forest on the steep right-hand slope into the valley to the tree line. After a longer, steadily rising path, path no.16b leads straight ahead into the bend, initially straight ahead, then on a partly narrow path further into the valley to the highest point (1,988 m), where a stream is crossed. Then take path no. 16b down to the Pranter Stadelhütte (1,833 m) and Wieserhütte (1,850 m). The way back to the car park is on the easy forest road no.15.

SUMMIT HIKING TOUR

THREE LAKES SEEFELD TO MARANZA

From Maranza to the Großberghütte hut on path no. 14/15 through the Altfasstal Valley, continuing to the Wieserhütte (1,850 m) then with increasing steepness (still on path no.14/15) up to the first big lake, the Seefeldsee. From its north shore on path no. 14/15 go up to the Seefeldalm (2,340 m) and on path no. 6 up the stream to the middle and small lakes. Not difficult and very rewarding for those who are used to walking in the mountains.

GAISJOCHSPITZE

MOUNTAIN SUMMIT TOUR

The Gaisjochspitze tour starts at the Alpine Spa Resort Sonnenberg. Take path no.15 into the Altfasstal Valley to the Wieserhütte. Passing it on the left, path no. 13 B leads via the Jochsteig up to the Gaisjoch. Take the same route back: if your legs are tired, hire a mountain bike at the Wieserhütte and return with it to the hotel.

FALLMETZER

MOUNTAIN SUMMIT TOUR

From the Gitschberg mountain station take path no. 21 to the Zasslerhütte (2,050 m) then continue right on path no. 21 up to Ochsenboden (2,198 m). Now take path no. 6 gently down to the Weißalm (2,177 m;), go straight ahead then turn right on path no. 6B briefly up to the Falzarer Joch (2,259 m). Now head left (north-west) in part on an old trail on the grassy southern meadow up to the southeast ridge, cross this without any problem (climbing tracks) up to a fence and now in part steeper (but still not difficult for sure-footed walkers) up to a hill then to the summit (2,568 m; around 2 hours from the Gitschberg mountain station). The shortest way back is via the ascent (around 1:30 hours).

RODENECKER-LÜSNER ALM

UP TO ASTJOCH (1,954 M)

Drive to the Zumis car park (1,725 m) above Rodengo. Follow the trail for a short way then turn left onto the higher path no. 4. This runs slightly uphill, through the high forest, then over flat meadows to the Ronerhütte (1,832 m).
Hiking trail no. 2 leads on a gentle incline to the chapel at Pianer Kreuz (1,901 m). Take the trail over via the most beautiful part of the pasture to the Starkenfeldhütte (1,936 m) then up a hill to the Astalm (1,954 m). The path is then steeper to the tree line; cross the pasture and scree terrain until you reach the top of the Astjoch at an altitude of 2,194 m.

HIGH GITSCH

PANORAMIC PLATFORM

Following easy path no. 12 on a road past the Hotel Gitschberg. Keep right and continue: after about 700 metres turn left at a fork in the road and stay on path no. 12 which leads past the Scheiderhof then over meadows and through the forest. After about one and a half kilometres on path no.12, take path no.19A to the right, which you follow to the northeast until just before the Kiener Alm (about 30 minutes), then turn left onto path no. 20 to the north. This leads to a crossroads where you turn left, then past the Gitschberg mountain restaurant; stay on path no. 20 and cross path no. 12 shortly after the Gitschhütte. If you follow the path to the right it takes about 40 minutes to reach the summit at 2,510 metres. The descent follows the same route back.

WILDE KREUZSPITZE

MOUNTAIN SUMMIT TOUR

The starting point is at the car park just before the Fane Alm in Valles or at the car park in front of the Kurzkofelhütte 1,422 m (additional ascent of approx. 1 hour).
From the Fane car park (1,735 m) take the forest path to the Fane Alm (1,739 m). Continue on path no. 17 through the “Schramme” gorge into the valley. Shortly after the gorge, trail no. 18 leads to the left. The path goes along a stream, passing the Labesebenalm (2,138 m) and on to the head of the valley. Ascend in a northerly direction to the Wilder See (2,532 m).
At the outflow of the lake take path no. 18 which leads up to the right to the Rauhtaljoch (2,807 m). When you reach the pass, continue on path no.18 to the summit of the Wilde Kreuzspitze (3,132 m). There may be snow! After a long rest at the summit, descend back to the Rauhtaljoch. There a trail goes left over rocky terrain or snow fields in a northerly direction down to the grassy terrain of a high valley, then to the Brixner hut (2,282 m).
Take path no. 17 out of the valley to the Fane Alm and back to the car park.

WURMAULSPITZE

IN THE MOUNTAINS OF FUNDRES

From the Fane Alm car park continue to the Brixner hut following a wide path through the western flanks up to the fork in the trail (left to the Labisebenalm and to the Wilder See), go straight ahead on the path through the alpine pastures further into the valley and finally up a steep grass slope to the Brixner hut (2,300m; from Fane Alm around 1:30 hours). Now follow the signpost to Wurmaul on the red and white marked trail eastwards via steep grassy slopes rising more sharply on the southwest flank of the mountain to the foot of the broad south flank of the summit. Take the trail up via a short rocky passage secured with a wire rope and after a few steps you are at the summit cross (3,022 m); around 2 hours from the Brixner hut. Descend via the same route.

Impressive facts in an impressive landscape. Learn all about the South Tyrolean dairy industry. This instructive hike to the Fane Alm features information panels along the way in the form of a cow or a goat, or even as a hay bale, always original in form and appropriate to the respective topic.

From the car park in Valles walk to the Kurzkofelhütte (1,422 m) on path no.17. The milk trail begins here (information panel). Take the same way back.

EDUCATIONAL AND ADVENTURE TRAIL

The Elf Trail is situated on the edge of the woods in Vandoies. It is a perfect family hiking trip of around 3 km. At the end of the hiking trail is a surprise for the kids: a breathtaking waterfall. Along the path there are 11 child-friendly stations with interesting insights into the culture and landscapes of South Tyrol.

GILFENKLAMM GORGE

A NATURAL WONDER OF WHITE MARBLE!

The Gilfenklamm is a gorge of pure white marble that stretches from the village of Stanghe into the Val Racines. Wooden bridges and walkways lead through the gorge and offer spectacular views of the waterfalls. The gorge is a protected natural monument and is famed as one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the alpine region.
The walkways through the gorge were built in 1896 and after just a few years attracted numerous visitors. The bridges were left to decay between the World Wars but were restored in the early 1960s and have since become a must-see for the Vipiteno-Racines area. The hike through the gorge takes nearly one hour (1.5 hours return) and is a delight for nature lovers, families and seniors.
